NORMAN LLOYD RICHARDSON, PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE APRIL 1, 1996 AT THE AGE OF 96 YEARS.

LLOYD WAS BORN FEBRUARY 9, 1900 AT CORBETTON, ONTARIO. HE CAME WITH HIS FAMILY AT THE AGE OF FIVE YEARS, FIRST TO HIGH RIVER THEN FATHER’S HOMESTEAD IN THE VULCAN AREA. LLOYD ATTENDED BERRYWATER SCHOOL AND PLAYED BASEBALL AND HORSESHOE’S. HE ATTENDED AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL IN CLARESHOLM, WHERE HE LEARNED FARMING AND BLACKSMITHING. LLOYD BEGAN FARMING WITH HORSES AND HIS LAST TEAM OF BELGIAN HORSES WERE NAMED” STAR” AND” BUSTER”. HE MARRIED CORA WINNIFRED HAMILTON IN 1925 AND THEY OPERATED A MIXED FARM INCLUDING REGISTERED POLLED HEREFORD CATTLE ON HIS GRANDFATHERS HOMESTEAD, WHICH WAS KNOWN EARLIER AS HEARNLEIGH POST OFFICE.

LLOYD WAS A HARD WORKING, GENTLE, LOVING, KIND MAN WHO TREATED ALL THE FARM ANIMALS AS PETS. HE ALWAYS HAD A DOG AND THE LAST DOG HE HAD FOR ELEVEN YEARS, WAS NAMED “DUSTY”, WHO COULD ANTICIPATE WHAT HIS MASTER WAS GOING TO DO BEFORE LLOYD KNEW HIMSELF, AND WAS A GREAT HELP TO HIM. HIS CATTLE WERE WORLD CLASS AND ON ONE OCCASION IN THE EARLY 70’S, THREE HEIFERS WERE SOLD TO RUSSIAN BUYER’S.

LLOYD HAS CONTINUED TO LIVE ON HIS OWN ON THE FARM UNTIL THIS PAST SUMMER, WHEN DUE TO A FALL THAT HURT HIS BACK, HE HAD TO LEAVE HIS HOME. LLOYD WOULD COME TO TOWN TWICE A WEEK TO PICK UP SUPPLIES AND SHOOT SOME POOL AT THE DROP-IN-CENTRE, THEN GO OUT TO HIS BROTHERS PLACE AND PLAY MORE POOL THERE. HE ENJOYED PLAYING POOL, HORSESHOE’S, READING, CARDS AND GARDENING. HE ALWAYS HAD A GARDEN, WHICH HE HAD UNTIL THIS PAST SUMMER.

LLOYD WAS A MEMBER OF THE ODDFELLOWS LODGE FOR OVER SEVENTY YEARS AND A MEMBER OF THE VULCAN DROP-IN CENTRE.

BELOVED FATHER OF A DAUGHTER NORA (WAYNE) ARNOLD OF CALGARY, A SON RALPH (LOIS) OF VULCAN, EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN, FOURTEEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, A BROTHER ED (MARGARET) OF VULCAN, 7 NIECES AND 2 NEPHEWS.

HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS WIFE CORA IN 1955, AN INFANT SON AND AN INFANT DAUGHTER, TWO BROTHERS LESLIE AND LEE, A SISTER LORNA GERDING, AND HIS PARENTS JOE AND IDA RICHARDSON.

FUNERAL SERVICE THURSDAY APRIL 4, 1996 AT 1:30 P.M. AT VULCAN UNITED CHURCH WITH REV. DON WATT OFFICIATING.

INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.

CASKET BEARERS; TERRY SHEEPY, PHIL SHEEPY, DON RICHARDSON, CHRIS RICHARDSON, RANDY RICHARDSON AND BILL SHARP.
