EDWIN EARL “ED” SHEA PASSED AWAY MARCH, 14, 1996 AT THE VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE AT THE AGE OF 75.

ED WAS BORN AUGUST 19, 1920 AT DRAKE, SASKATCHEWAN, SEVENTH OF TEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS. HE GREW UP ON THE FARM AT MOSSBANK WHERE HIS FATHER OPERATED A DAIRY FARM, LIVERY STABLES AND A DRAY SERVICE. HIS FATHER SOLD EVERYTHING AND DROVE BACK TO DAMACUS, ONTARIO IN 1937, ALONG WITH HIS BROTHERS, SISTERS AND SOME SPOUSES IN THE SAME CAR. IN 1947 ED RETURNED TO THE WEST ALL THE WAY TO VANCOUVER AND WORKED AT THE GRAIN TERMINALS. HE RETURNED TO ALBERTA IN 1963 AND WORKED AT CROSSFIELD, COCHRANE, AIRDRIE. ED WOULD MOVE IN WITH HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THEN BACK TO WORK IN THE SPRING. HE CAME TO CARMANGAY IN 1967 AND WORKED FOR TWEDT BROTHERS UNTIL 1971, GLEN CHURCH UNTIL 1975 AND FOR JARVIS BROWNELL UNTIL RETIRING IN 1985. DUE TO HIS HEALTH, HE CAME TO VULCAN IN 1993 WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.

ED LOVED TO GARDEN AND RAISED SPECIALITY CROPS INCLUDING BANANA POTATOES, ARTICHOKE AND CELERY, JUST TO NAME A FEW. ALTHOUGH HE NEVER HAD MUCH, HE ENJOYED SHARING HIS PLANT TREASURES WITH HIS FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS. ONE OF ED‘S HIGHLIGHTS WAS ST. PATRICK’ DAY PARADE IN CARMANGAY, WHICH HE WOULD PARTICIPATE IN EACH YEAR. HE ALSO ENJOYED READING WESTERN STORIES. WHILE IN CALGARY HE ALWAYS HAD A DOG WITH HIM, WHICH WAS GIVEN TO HIM BY HIS BROTHER IRWIN. THE DOG WENT EVERYWHERE WITH HIM AND WAS QUITE CONTENT TO SIT BESIDE HIM WHILE SOCIALIZING AT THE LOCAL TAVERN. ED ALSO ENJOYED HOME COOKED MEALS AND COOKING WITH FRESH GARDEN GROWN VEGETABLES. HE ALWAYS HAD A CHOCOLATE BAR FOR THE NURSES AND SPECIAL PEOPLE IN HIS LIFE.

ED IS SURVIVED BY A BROTHER DAVID (IDA) SHEA OF TILDEN LAKE, ONTARIO, THREE SISTERS FRANCES (HERMAN) MILLS, IRENE (JOHN) MILLS BOTH OF DUNDALK, ONTARIO AND JEAN SCHWAGER OF ITUNA, SASKATCHEWAN, AND NUMEROUS NIECES, NEPHEWS AND COUSINS.

HE WAS PREDECEASED BY TWO BROTHERS IRWIN AND HAROLD, THREE SISTERS MARGARET, ALICE AND MAY AND HIS PARENTS GEORGE AND MARGARET SHEA.

FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD SATURDAY MARCH 16, 1996 AT 1:30 P.M. AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE WITH REV. DON WATT OFFICIATING.

INTERMENT TO FOLLOW MONDAY MARCH 18, 1996 AT 10 A.M. IN THE CARMANGAY CEMETERY.
