DAW, THOMAS ALFRED “TOM” PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AT THE FOOTHILLS HOSPITAL, CALGARY, ALBERTA SEPTEMBER 3, 1997 AT THE AGE OF 76 YEARS.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF HAZEL FOR 51 YEARS OF VULCAN, FATHER OF TWO DAUGHTERS LINDA AND RICK RABB OF CALGARY , PAT AND MARK THOMPSON OF FORT McMURRAY, TWO SONS ALFRED AND DIANNE OF VULCAN, LARRY AND ANNE OF EDMONTON, TEN GRANDCHILDREN ;GARY AND CHERYL, RICK JR., KEN, MIKE, CHRIS, TIM, BRIAN, GREG, SHAUNA AND LAURA, A GREAT GRANDSON, WESLEY, THREE BROTHERS: ED OF NANAIMO, B.C., FRED, FRANCIS AND JESSIE ALL OF GLEICHEN, LOVING SISTERS-IN-LAW, ONE BROTHER-IN-LAW, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS WHO WERE VERY SPECIAL TO TOM.
TOM WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS AND BROTHER WILLIAM.
TOM WAS BORN APRIL 13, I921 ON THE FAMILY HOMESTEAD NEAR SUNNYNOOK, ALBERTA. HE BEGAN WORKING FOR FARMERS IN THE AREA, RODE THE RAILS FOR A SHORT TIME. THEN BEGAN WORKING FOR CP RAIL AT OGDEN SHOPS IN CALGARY. DURING THIS TIME HE TOURED TO MOSSLEIGH WITH HIS COUSIN, WHERE HE MET HAZEL LARSON.
IN 1941 HE JOINED THE ARMY SERVICE CORPS. AT THE AGE OF TWENTY YEARS. HE SERVED OVERSEAS AT SICILY, ITALY, BELGIUM AND FINALLY IN HOLLAND. IN 1946 HE RETURNED HOME AND MARRIED HAZEL ON FEBRUARY 21 ST. THEY FARMED AT STANDARD UNTIL 1953, THEN MOVED TO QUEENSTOWN TO WORK IN A GARAGE WITH HIS BROTHER-IN-LAW JACK BUSHELL. IN 1970 THEY MOVED TO STRATHMORE UNTIL RETIRING IN 1982, AND MOVED TO MOSSLEIGH THE SAME YEAR. THEY CAME TO VULCAN IN 1988 WHERE THEY HAVE CONTINUED TO RESIDE SINCE.
CREATING THINGS WAS TOM’S PASSION. HE SPENT MANY HOURS IN HIS SHOP AT THE HOUSE BUILDING THINGS. HE WAS A WIZARD WHEN IT CAME TO SOLVING PUZZLES . MOST OFTEN HE WOULD DRAW WHAT HE WANTED TO BUILD, THEN PROCEEDED TO CONSTRUCT HIS PROJECT. HIS NATURAL ABILITY FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS AND THE SPECIAL TIMES WITH HIS FAMILY WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.
FUNERAL SERVICE SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 6, 1997 AT 2 P.M. AT VULCAN UNITED CHURCH WITH REV. DON WATT OFFICIATING.
