JOHNSON, CARL LUDVIG PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN, ALBERTA JANUARY 18, 1997 AT THE AGE OF 90 YEARS.

CARL WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 7, 1906 AT PALERMO, NORTH DAKOTA. IN 1907 HE CAME WITH HIS PARENTS TO THE QUEENSTOWN AREA WHERE HE COMPLETED HIS SCHOOLING. HE BEGAN WORKING DRIVING TRUCK ON THE ALASKA HIGHWAY DURING ITS CONSTRUCTION. DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR CARL WAS A MEMBER OF THE ARMED FORCES. HE RETURNED TO MILO AND DROVE SCHOOL BUS FOR MANY YEARS, FOLLOWING HIS MARRIAGE TO IRENE WHO WAS POST MASTER AT THE POST OFFICE, HE BECAME POST MASTER FOR MANY YEARS. CARL ENJOYED FARMING AND CONTINUED TO WORK ON THE FARM UNTIL MOVING TO MILO. HE ALSO ENJOYED WORKING ON AUTOMOBILES, TRACTORS AND MACHINERY, ESPECIALLY ANTIQUE MODELS.

HE WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE MILO LIONS CLUB, BUFFALO HILLS CAMPING CLUB AND MORE RECENTLY A MEMBER OF THE SNAKE VALLEY DROP-IN CENTRE CARL ENJOYED SPENDING WINTERS IN MESA, ARIZONA, PLAYING POOL, CARDS ESPECIALLY SMEAR. HE WOULD READ A GREAT VARIETY OF HISTORY BOOKS AND WHILE VISITING WITH FRIENDS HE’D ADD TO THE CONVERSATION HIS WEALTH OF HISTORICAL INFORMATION.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF TWENTY-ONE YEARS MARJ JOHNSON FORMERLY OF MILO, ALBERTA, AND HER SON LES (CLAIRE) BECKNER OF CALGARY, A STEP-SON BILL (ELLEN) WATT OF MILO, TWO GRANDSONS, A BROTHER ALEX (VERA) JOHNSON OF SUNDRE, A SISTER CHRISTINE BENJAMIN OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS. CARL WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FIRST WIFE IRENE IN 1975, THREE BROTHERS, TWO SISTERS AND HIS PARENTS.

FUNERAL SERVICE THURSDAY JANUARY 23, 1997 AT 1:30 P.M. AT MILO UNITED CHURCH WITH DON HOLMES L.M. OFFICIATING. INTERMENT TO FOLLOW AT MOUNTAIN VIEW MEMORIAL GARDENS 17 AVE. AT GARDEN ROAD S.E., CALGARY.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIAL TRIBUTES IN CARL’S MEMORY COULD BE MADE TO THE SNAKE VALLEY DROP-IN CENTRE, MILO, ALBERTA TOL ILO.
