Peter William “Pete” Sanderson formerly of Champion, Alberta passed away suddenly March 29, 2006 at the family farm east of Champion, Alberta at the age of 55 years.
Pete was born November 18, 1950 at Calgary, Alberta to Jack and Helen Sanderson. He started school in 1957 at Champion and attended high school in Vulcan until Grade 11. Pete learned how to drive a grain truck at the age of 9 by his dad and worked full time on the farm after leaving high school. Pete loved to water ski in the summer when he was younger and was known to back boats into the lake at Little Bow Provincial Park for weekend campers in return for a free pull on the skis.
Pete was an avid sports fan, enjoying baseball, basketball, hockey, curling, and team roping. When he wasn’t participating in sports he could always be found cheering on his children in their school sports, hockey, and rodeo. He was a member of the Champion Lions Club, Champion Roping and Riding Association and was a Cub leader for a number of years, but his greatest love was always his family. Pete married Judy Johnston on November 8, 1975 at Champion United Church. Over the years they had four children and most recently Pete’s two greatest treasures arrived, his two grandchildren.
Beloved husband of Judy and loving father to Jacquelyn, both of Vulcan, three sons Mark (Tami) and Steven (Tawnya), both of Champion and Blair (friend Adina) of Lethbridge, two grandchildren John and Taryn both of Champion, mother Helen of Vulcan, sister Edna (Dave) Clark of Vulcan, father and mother-in-law Dale and Barb Johnston of Ponoka, two sisters-in-law Mary-Lou (Ken) Merrill of Ponoka and Sandra (Harry) Wilson of Leduc, brother-in-law Garry Johnston of Sooke, B.C., niece Christine (Dave) Robertson of Toronto, nephew Mike Clark of Vulcan and other numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorial service Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Champion Community Hall with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating.
Honorary bearers Randy and Laurie Lyckman, Terry and Evie Rhodes, Larry and Wendy Helland, and Gordon and Ann Rupp.
