Lillian Mae “Lil” (Hughes) Kary of Calgary passed away suddenly January 1, 2006 at Calgary Foothills Hospital at the age of 70 years.
Lil was born July10, 1935 at Lomond, Alberta to Earl and Alberta Armstrong. She attended Lomond School and at an early age married Roy Hostetler in 1954. They continued to reside in Lomond and raise their three children, Bruce, Arlie and Debra, until his passing in 1965. In 1967 Lil married Llewellyn Hughes and he adopted all three children and they resided in Vulcan. She moved to Calgary in 1975 and attended Calgary Business College. In 1984 Lil attended Alberta Vocational College taking business education. She began working for the Federal Government in Calgary, retiring as a GST office clerk in 1999. In the same year she married Gerry Kary with her mom as maid of honor and Gerry’s uncle as best man.
Lil loved her family and would do anything for them. She spent as much time with them as she could, enjoying trips to Grand Prairie, Cold Lake, Vancouver, Creston, Vulcan and Lomond. In her spare time she played games on the computer, played cards and crib with friends, did crossword puzzles, painted rocks for her flower garden and went camping. She had a real sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke or tease and she also loved to shop.
Lil will be sorrowfully missed by her beloved husband Gerry Kary of Calgary, loving daughter Debra Hughes (Robert Gross) of Blackie, two sons Bruce Hughes of Vancouver and Arlie Hughes of Calgary, three step daughters Sherry (Darryl) Lyczewski of Okotoks, Deanna (Brian) Robson of Grand Prairie and Glenda (Peter) Burnett of Cold Lake and their families, her four grandchildren Cody (Jody) McCreadie and Randy (Nicki McGillivray) McCreadie all of Vulcan , Lucas (Krystal Wiess) Hughes and Audrey Hughes, five great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Megan, Ashley and Bailey McCreadie and Nya Hughes, two brothers David (Marjorie) Armstrong of Lomond and Les (Deb) Armstrong of Creston, BC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lillian was predeceased by her first husband Roy Hostetler and her father Earl Armstrong, step father Cliff Booth and her mother Alberta Booth in November of 2005.
Memorial Service Friday, January 6, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating.
