Samuel “Sam” Zahursky, of Vulcan passed away December 5, 2002 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 99 years.
Sam was born August 21, 1903 in Max, North Dakota to Joseph and Salomea Zahursky. He had two brothers and two sisters. The family moved to the homestead in the Lonesome Butte, Saskatchewan area. Sam went to Alberta to work in the dry “thirties”. He met Jean Robertson of Queenstown and they were married December 9, 1935. Sam was a mechanic and worked at the Oliver Machinery Company, the garage in Queenstown and then became the mechanic at Allan Phillips garage in Arrowwood in 1945. He started his own garage in 1957, “Sam’s Garage” and was happy running his business until he retired in 1972.
Sam served on the Village Council in Arrowwood for seven years. He also enjoyed curling at the Arrowwood Rink. Sam continued to repair small engines in his garage in the backyard and enjoyed Auction Sales and Garage Sales where he would buy something he could fix and re-sell.
In December of 2000 he moved to the Vulcan Community Health Centre Long Term Unit and later into Vulcan Extendicare where he has continued to reside since.
Beloved husband of Jean of Vulcan, loving father of three daughters Joan (Bruce) Gateman of Mossleigh, Lois (Gordon) King of Arrowwood, Barb (Barrie) Mainwaring of High River, three sons Wayne (Audrey) Zahursky, Carl Case all of Calgary, Gordon Zahursky of Arrowwood, nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Roy in 1954, two sisters, four brothers and his parents.
Memorial Service Monday December 9, 2002 at 2 P.M. Arrowwood United Church with Rob Moore D.M. officiating.
