JOHNSON, John Allen “Bud”  1927 – 2002

John Allen “Bud” Johnson of Vulcan passed away April 21, 2002 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 75 years.

Bud was born February 9, 1927 in Medicine Hat, Alberta to Gustov and Katherine Johnson. He attended Medicine Hat school. In 1945 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Gimli, Manitoba where he trained as an aircraft mechanic, until his discharge in 1947. He returned to Medicine Hat and was working for a bakery when he met Marie Rapson and they were married December 27, 1947. After his marriage he worked for several companies as a truck driver, and eventually opened his own company Bud’s Transfer which he operated for a few years. They moved to Athabasca in 1972 and worked as a mechanic and tires department at the Ford dealership. They moved to Medicine Hat in 1976 working for the Government and later as a custodian at the Seven Persons School until retiring in 1983. They travelled to Calgary, Fort Simpson, Marsh Lake in the Yukon finally moving to Champion in 1992 and to the long term care unit of the Vulcan Community Health Centre in 1996 were he has resided since.

Bud loved his family, he was a collector of neat things that he stored for the perfect use. He was a member of the Champion Royal Canadian Legion Branch #262.

Beloved husband of Marie of Vulcan, loving father of three daughters Joanne (Mike) Allen of Edmonton, Gloria (Ian) Lommerse of Whitehorse, Kelly (Howard) French of Edmonton, two sons John (Cheryl) and Jeff all of Calgary, ten grandchildren Jeremy Johnson, Pete Lommerse. Zoe Lommerse, Max Lommerse, Kirsten Johnson, Janet Yates, Jennifer Halliday, Jim French, Nathaniel Johnson and Mike Allen Jr, two great grandchildren Miranda Allen and Brandon Allen, five sisters Pauline (John) Bekker of Athabasca, Ida Tousignant of Edmonton, Annetta Lozo of Medicine Hat, Helen (Louis) Chasse of Athabasca and Clara Helmer of Medicine Hat, a brother Edwin (Meg) Johnson of Swan River, Manitoba, numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life Service Thursday April 25, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at the Champion Congregational Church with Rev. Wayne Lee officiating.

Honour Guard and Last Post Service by members of the Champion Royal Canadian Legion #262.

Inurnment at a later date.
