John Harry “Jack” West, formerly of Lomond, passed away peacefully November 9, 2003 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 90 years.
Jack was born on November 25, 1912 near Vulcan, Alberta to Herbert and Edith West. He received his education at Brunetta and Lomond schools. While growing up Jack assisted with the family farm, eventually owning his own farm. On June 24, 1944 he married Charlotte Clark in a small ceremony at her family home in Winnipeg. Together they ran a mixed farming operation and raised registered Hereford cattle. Jack considered all his animals part of his family and they were his pride and joy. In 1982 they sold the farm and retired to the Town of Lomond. Charlotte passed away in January of 2003 and Jack moved into Vulcan Extendicare in February where he has continued to reside since.
Jack was a devoted husband to Charlotte and a loving brother and uncle. He also had the fortune of being an escort to several ladies of the Lomond area for special occasions. He was a very honorable man who was known for being decent, kind and honest with his word being his bond.
Jack was a member of the Lomond Lions Club for forty years and a staunch member of the U.G.G. where he served as secretary for several years.
Jack is survived by a sister Ivy Goldthorpe of Vulcan, a brother Albert (Helen) West of Vulcan a sister-in-law Yvonne West of Vulcan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Charlotte, a brother Herbert and his parents.
Funeral Service Friday November 14, 2003 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lomond at 1:30 P.M. with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.

Casket Bearers Bruce West, Doug West, Burton Hingley, Vic Birkeness, Derwyn Grant and David West.
Interment Lomond Cemetery.
