Elsie Florence Thompson, 82, passed away peacefully at Vulcan Extendicare August 3, 2003.
Elsie was born on February 21, 1921 at home at Badger Lake Alberta. She was the fourth child of Albert and Ellen Thompson. She attended Badger Lake School, finishing high school in Lomond. She graduated as a teacher from Normal School in Calgary in 1940. The first school she taught at was near her home at First Chance. She then went on to discover different schools throughout the province. In 1965 she moved to Vulcan to care for her father and took part in church activities and the local Choral Society. In 1971 she attended an Arts Program at the University of Saskatchewan. Elsie worked at several businesses and her last place of employment was with Revelstoke in Calgary.
Elsie was very creative and this showed in all she attempted to do which included photography, painting, cross stitching, crocheting, knitting and sewing. As her father and sister before her, she had a talent for growing plants. African violets were her favorite. Elsie also was a great sports fan, keeping her own stats on all the players in pro sports. She lived a full life and remembered all her nieces and nephews with a gift on their birthday. Elsie is survived by two sisters Clara Bride of Vulcan, Dorothy Thompson of Calgary, a brother Henry (Arline) Thompson of Brooks, three nieces Elaine (Richard) Hall of Vulcan, Susan (Bob) Hodson of Duchess, Marge (Ron) Jordan of Lethbridge and thirty-one great and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Leonard and a nephew Bill Thompson.
Funeral service at Vulcan United Church, Thursday August 7, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Henry Friesen officiating.
Interment Vulcan Cemetery.
Casket bearers Marty Hall, Darcy Jordan, Ryan Thompson, Shelly Vikedal, Justin Thompson, T-Jay Thompson.
