WILSON, David Clifford “Dave” 1940 – 2004

Wilson, David Clifford “Dave” passed away Thursday November 11, 2004 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 64 years.

Dave was born May 28, 1940 at Great Baddow, Essex, England to Harry and Muriel Wilson. After Dave completed his schooling he apprenticed as a reporter in England.

He married Heather Daphne Ann Brewster in England in 1961. They had two children, Andy and Sue. Dave was always a man of adventure and decided in 1966 to move the family to Canada. The vast space and the exciting winter life really appealed to Dave. They arrived in Edmonton in May, 1966 and he began working for IBM as a technician. He always took pride in saying he was a Canadian and never looked back on the big move. Dave was always looking for the next challenge. His new challenge involved another move, but not quite so dramatic as the last. The family moved once again to Spruce Grove where both Dave and Heather opened the newspaper called “The Spruce Grove Examiner” and later opened a print shop. The newspaper was sold and the print shop and family moved to Barrhead. Dave enjoyed twenty years in Barrhead but decided it was time for another change. The business was sold and Dave took on the new challenge of Publisher for the Vulcan Advocate. Writing was a favourite past time of Dave’s so he just couldn’t get the newspaper business out of his blood.

As a youth, he was a member of the Cubs and Scouts and became involved with the Scouts and Cub pack in Barrhead and Vulcan. He won a high award in Scouts called the Lord Baden Powell Woodsman Badge with toggle and scarf. Dave also enjoyed camping, fishing and playing the fiddle. He was involved in the community as a member of the Lions Club, Royal Canadian Legion where he served on the executive and most recently as a Councillor for the Town of Vulcan where he served for three years.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Heather of Vulcan, a daughter Sue (Robert) Paquin of Vevey, Switzerland, a son Andy (Kathie) Wilson of Essex, Ontario, six grandchildren, which was Dave’s love of his life and will cherish his memory, Tamara, Janelle, James, Nicole, Mike and Joel, a brother John (June) Wilson of Spain, father-in-law Philip Brewster and brother-in-law Geoffrey (Margaret) Brewster all of England and numerous nieces and nephews.
