It is with deep sadness that the family announce the sudden passing of their husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle and friend at his home in Sylvan Lake on July 5, 2004.

Douglas was born at home in Travers, Alberta on December 31, 1928 to Fred and Helen Walker. He began his own trucking business in 1947 and also undertook odd jobs in the late 40’s early 50’s which brought him to Calgary where he met Paulene Kennay. They were married on June 14, 1952. He brought his new bride home to Lomond where they built and operated the restaurant “The Blue Willow Inn” until 1954 when they were able to sell the restaurant and began farming on their own. They raised their three daughters in Lomond and resided there until their semi-retirement in 1995, when they moved to Redwood Meadows. They recently moved to Cochrane in September 2003.

Douglas and Paulene traveled extensively to many parts of the world and were fortunate to enjoy every winter at their home in Phoenix, Arizona from 1984 – 2004. Douglas was extremely active in the communities in which he lived including the raising of the Lomond Community Centre, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting and school activities, senior’s clubs and he was a proud to be a Charter Member (49 years) of the Lomond Lions Club.

Douglas lived his life to the fullest, but his most treasured moments were when he was surrounded by his family. Of all of his life’s accomplishments, his family was the most important one.
