Many Sundays were spent with friends and relatives serving fried chicken and homemade pie. Gladys was a member of the Church of the Brethren Ladies Aid and helped provide for needy families.

In 1971 Gladys and Don retired and moved into Arrowwood. They enjoyed holidays to Alaska, N.W.T. and Yukon, Europe, Hawaii, several States and a bus trip across Canada.
