George Olaf Sandberg of Vulcan Alberta passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on March 27, 2004 after a lengthy illness at the age of 63 years.

George was born on December 7, 1940 in Vulcan to George and Louise Sandberg. He was raised on the family farm near Nanton where he attended elementary and junior high school. The family moved to Vulcan in 1954 and George attended and graduated from senior high school in Vulcan. He helped on the family farm and worked for the Pool Elevators at Lyalta. From 1963 to 1966 George worked as a ranch hand on the Don Bernier Ranch. In 1966 he started working for Vulcan S & S Concrete as the foreman. George calculated and supervised with the construction requirements for the P & H Elevator just outside Vulcan. In 1999 Vulcan S & S Concrete was sold to Hurlburt Rock Products and he assumed the foreman position until health issues stopped him from working.

George loved people and teasing his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed riding his Honda Gold Wing motorbike. When the family lived in Nanton, George was a member of the Nanton 4H Calf Club for three years and had the Grand Champion for one of those years. He was also a member of the Nanton Reserve Army Cadets. George was volunteer fireman for the Vulcan & District Fire Department.

George is survived by two sisters Joyce (Larry) Kreutz of Lethbridge and Shirley (Gord) Goldhawk of Vulcan, five nieces Lawrena (Murray) Pokolm and children Amanda and Kevin; Tracey (Mike) Wollin and children Michael, Mickey and Mylar; Kelly Kreutz and children Rikki, Ronnie and Lawrence; Cheryl (Ken) Walter and child Kendra and Robin (Chad Moffat) Kreutz; three nephews Troy (Lisa) Kreutz and child Kennedy; Shawn (Dana) Goldhawk and Rick (Cindy) Goldhawk and child Camryn; and many friends.

George was predeceased by his parents George and Louise, two brothers Ron and Brian.

Funeral Service Thursday April 1, 2004 at 2:00p.m. at Vulcan United Church with Lee Spice officiating.

Casket Bearers Don Bernier, Kevin Kreutz, Troy Kreutz, Jim Slade, Nigel Slade, Rick Goldhawk and Shawn Goldhawk.

Internment Vulcan Cemetery, Vulcan, Alberta.
