Arnold Roy Pobst of Arrowwood, Alberta passed away Monday, September 26, 2005 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 77 years.
Arnold was born October 18 , 1927 at Arrowwood, Alberta to Clate and Candace Williams. His mother and twin sister died at birth. Arnold was cared for by Mrs. Lyons then Mrs. Pobst for the first four years. In 1931 he was adopted by Frank and Maude Pobst and moved to New Westminster, BC. Arnold received his schooling in BC and worked in the lumber mills. Arnold moved back to Alberta in the summers to work for Hurley Williams and was able to meet and get to know his Alberta family. He traveled back and forth for many years before and after his marriage to Lorraine Sheets in March of 1947. In 1958 they were able to purchase a farm at Arrowwood where they have resided ever since. During the 1960’s Arnold began driving school bus for the County of Vulcan until retiring in 1995. In 1998 he retired from farming.
Arnold was active in the community as a member of the Arrowwood Lions Club, Arrowwood Seniors Club, Arrowwood Gun and Rifle Club and the Arrowwood Curling Club, Calgary Highlander Militia Corps. in Vulcan, Royal Canadian Legion, Vulcan Seniors Club and the Vulcan Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed many outdoor sports including hunting, fishing, golfing and curling. Arnold was always interested in meeting and talking to people. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Beloved husband of Lorraine of Arrowwood, loving father of four daughters Lois (Allan Berg) of Bowden, Louise, Janet (Jean Guy Charest) all of Edmonton, Joan (Sid Nelson) of Beaumont, five grandchildren Simon ( Janel) Berg, Dr. Alana Berg, Pte. Russell Nelson, Robert Nelson and Brett Nelson, two sisters Ruby Beckner and Marlene (Gord) Snow all of Calgary, two brothers Lyle (Lorene) Williams of Acme, Hurley (Grace) Williams of Arrowwood, two sisters-in-law Darlene Williams and Irene Williams both of Vulcan, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arnold was predeceased by four sisters, nine brothers and his parents.
Funeral service Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Arrowwood Community Hall with Rev. Lee Spice officiating.
