Mildred Edna Lucas of Vulcan, Alberta passed away March 14, 2005 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 83 years.
Mildred was born December 8, 1921 at Clanwilliam, Manitoba to Christian and Christine Frederickson. She attended Lakelet School along with her three sisters and two brothers. Mildred married William Higson Lucas in July, 1940 and they began their life together on Bill’s farm in Armada. They ran a mixed farming operation and also a milk delivery at Armada for a while. Mildred belonged to the Armada Community Club for over 30 years. She also helped with Sunday School and Bible School. In 1974 they sold the farm to their son Delmar and moved to Vulcan.
After retiring, they enjoyed taking many bus tours. They traveled to both east and west coasts of Canada, to Alaska, Nashville and several other parts of the U.S.A. Bill passed away in 1998 and Mildred continued to lived in their home in Vulcan. In 2004 she moved to Peter Dawson Lodge where she has resided since.
Mildred was involved with the women’s group of the Vulcan United Church for many years. Mildred and Bill were members of the Agriculture Society and helped with Farmers’ Markets. Mildred assisted with the Vulcan Fair and took part in various fairs in the County where she won many prizes and trophies. Her hobbies were cooking, knitting, crocheting and doing various crafts.
Loving mother of a daughter Linda Booth of Milo, three sons Ronald (Val) of Vulcan, Delmar (Janie) of Leduc, Marlin of Milo, eleven grandchildren Corrie (Jaime) Lucas, Jan-Delle (Craig) Toker, Noel (Samantha) Lucas, Lane (Jean) Lucas, Justin Lucas, Jessie (Blaine) Lloyd, Matthew Lucas and special friend Katherine, Denver Fleming, Kurt Lucas, Joel Lucas, Kevin (Kim) Booth and four extended grandchildren Darren (Karen) Lebsack, Jeff (Deb) Lebsack, Stacey Machan, Stephen Lebsack, eleven great grandchildren Jay Lucas, Kenzie Lucas, Sharlie Lucas, Chase Lloyd, Tyra Lloyd, Kailey Toker, Kai Toker, Kylee Booth, Larissa Booth, Kadon Booth, Brogan Booth and three extended great grandchildren Ethan Machan, Hunter Lebsack, Ashley Lebsack, a sister Mabel Korberg of Minnedosa, Manitoba, a brother Harold (Muriel) Frederickson of Calgary, three sisters-in-law Audrey Lucas of Lomond, Catherine Grant of Vulcan, Marie Frederickson of Chicago, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband Bill, two sisters Edith (Emil) Larson, Helen (Fred) Sillen, a brother Arthur Frederickson, a sister-in-law Irene Frederickson, two brothers-in-law Gordon Lucas, Harry Korberg and her parents.
Funeral service Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating.
Casket bearers Derwyn Grant, Roy Lucas, Tom Grant, Norman Stokes, Emmet Meehan and Allan Grant.
Internment Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 17th Avenue at Garden Road, Garden of Christus, Calgary, Alberta at 3:30 p.m.
