MABEL EVELYN McINTYRE, FORMERLY OF VULCAN PASSED AWAY AT THE LETHBRIDGE REGIONAL HOSPITAL DECEMBER 11, 1999 AT THE AGE OF 83 YEARS.
MABEL WAS BORN DECEMBER 17, 1915 AT WETASKIWIN, ALBERTA TO ANDREW AND INGEBORG JORGENSON. SHE MARRIED ROSS McINTYRE IN MARCH OF 1933. TOGETHER THEY TOOK OVER THE DUNCAN McINTYRE HOMESTEAD IN 1944. DURING THE WAR YEARS, ROSS WAS EMPLOYED BY THE UNITED STATES ARMY AS A PAYMASTER, IN DAWSON CREEK, FOR THE ARMY ROAD CREW UNTIL 1945. THEY RAISED THEIR DAUGHTERS AMONGST, TAR PAPER SHACKS AND ROAD CREW WORKERS. MABEL’S SISTER WAS ALSO THERE AND THEY SUPPORTED EACH OTHER DURING THIS TIME OF BREAKING NEW LAND. MABEL AND ROSS RETURNED TO THE FAMILY FARM IN 1945 AND WERE GLAD TO HAVE SO MANY LUXURIES CLOSE AT HAND AND FAMILY LIVING NEAR BY.IN 1951 THEY MOVED TO THE TOWN OF VULCAN AND CONTINUED FARMING UNTIL 1981 WHEN MYRNA AND JIM FLEMING TOOK OVER THE FARM.
FROM 1975 UNTIL 1987 THEY WINTERED IN VICTORIA, B.C. AND THEN IN ARIZONA. ROSS PASSED AWAY IN 1995 AFTER SIXTY -TWO YEARS OF MARRIAGE. MABEL MOVED TO LETHBRIDGE IN 1997 WHERE SHE HAS RESIDED FIRST AT THE HERITAGE LODGE AND FOR THE PAST YEAR IN HER OWN CONDO.
IN HER YOUNGER YEARS MABEL ENJOYED THE FARM LIFE, TIMES WITH THE NEIGHBOR LADIES, KEEPING A GARDEN AND CURLING IN VULCAN, WHILE IN MESA SHE ENJOYED THE SOCIAL LIFE AND TOOK PART IN SHUFFLE BOARD, ARTS AND DOING CRAFTS. SHE ALSO CROCHETED AFGHANS MAKING ONE FOR ALL OF HER CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, AS WELL AS STARTING AN AFGHAN FOR THE NEXT GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILD. SHE LOVED TO BAKE, ANGEL FOOD CAKE, BREAD, CINNAMON BUNS, COOKIES AND DONUTS.
SHE WAS A CHARTER MEMBER OF THE ROYAL PURPLE LODGE #121 AND THE PAST NOBLE GRAND REBECCA LODGE #37, VULCAN.
LOVING MOTHER OF TWO DAUGHTERS SHIRLEY (TERRY) WHITE AND MYRNA (JIM) FLEMING ALL OF VULCAN, EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN WENDY WHITE, CINDY WHITE, MICHAEL (TERESA) WHITE, JANICE PETERSEN, GREG (SHIRLEY) FLEMING, CHERYL ROBERTS, JOANNE FLEMING AND RHONDA (KERRY) PROUTEN, EIGHTEEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, A SISTER-IN-LAW RETA MENSINGER OF VULCAN, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
MABEL WAS PREDECEASED BY HER HUSBAND ROSS, TWO BROTHERS, TWO SISTERS AND HER PARENTS.
FUNERAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 15, 1999 AT 1:30 P.M. AT VULCAN UNITED CHURCH WITH REV. LORRAINE POWELL OFFICIATING.
INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
CASKET BEARERS WERE COLIN WRIGHT, MICHAEL WHITE, RYAN WHITE, GREG FLEMING, KYLE WHITE AND BROCK ROBERTS.
