ALLAN “BUCK” LINDSAY, FORMERLY OF LOMOND PASSED AWAY NOVEMBER 10, 1999 AT ROCKYVIEW HOSPITAL, CALGARY, ALBERTA AT THE AGE OF 80 YEARS.

ALLAN WAS BORN ON THE FAMILY FARM DECEMBER 8, 1918 AT LOMOND, ALBERTA TO TOM AND JENNIE LINDSAY. HE ATTENDED PLATEAU AND SNAKE VALLEY SCHOOLS. ALLAN, AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN BY HIS FRIENDS AS “BUCK”, BEGAN COMMERCIAL COMBINING IN THE STATES FOR THREE YEARS IN THE MID 1940’S. ALLAN, PETE STOKES AND BUD HORNBERGER TOOK THEIR COMBINES AS FAR SOUTH AS TEXAS IN THE SPRING AND WORKED THEIR WAY NORTH, ARRIVING BACK IN LOMOND DECEMBER. IN 1945, ALLAN RENTED LAND FROM RAY HORNBERGER. AFTER HIS PARENTS RETIRED IN 1949, HE TOOK OVER THE FAMILY FARM, AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR HE BOUGHT HIS DADS HALF SECTION IN THE TRAVERS DISTRICT. IN 1953, HE MARRIED MARY SLATER AND THEY CONTINUED TO RESIDE ON THE FARM UNTIL MOVING TO VULCAN IN 1980. ALLAN CONTINUED FARMING UNTIL FULLY RETIRING IN THE MID EIGHTIES WHEN HE SOLD HIS FARM TO ELDON MARONDA.

IN HIS YOUTH, HE SPENT MANY HOURS “DOWN AT THE BRIDGE” SWIMMING IN LAKE MacGREGOR. HE ICE FISHED ON LAKE MacGREGOR COMMERCIALLY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DICK TEASDALE AND GIB HONES. HE WAS VERY FOND OF ANIMALS, OFTEN ADOPTING STRAY DOGS; A FAVORITE PET WAS A BRITTANY SPANIEL NAMED “LADY”.

ALLAN WAS A QUIET, HARD WORKING, GENTLE MAN, WHO LOVED TO BE AROUND PEOPLE, VOLUNTEERING HIS TIME AND EQUIPMENT WITH THE LOCAL CLUBS. FARMING WAS HIS GREATEST PASSION. DURING HIS RETIREMENT YEARS, HE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED CAMPING AND TRAVELING IN THE MOTOR HOME WITH HIS FAMILY. HE ALSO ENJOYED GOLFING, RECREATIONAL FISHING AT CRESTON AND DUCK LAKE, AND THE MANY GOOD TIMES SPENT WITH THEIR LIFE LONG FRIENDS KEN AND FLORENCE SOKVITNE. ALLAN AND MARY TRAVELED THROUGH BRITAIN, EUROPE, ALASKA, PANAMA, CARRIBEAN, ONTARIO, QUEBEC, MARITIMES, NEWFOUNDLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA, USA, ASIA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, MEDITERRANEAN AND THE BAHAMAS. ALLAN ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO WATCHING WORLD SERIES BASEBALL. HE APPRECIATED THE IRISH IN HIS HERITAGE, FROM WHICH HE ACQUIRED A STRONG WILL AND A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF FORTY-SIX YEARS OF MARY OF VULCAN, LOVING FATHER OF A DAUGHTER MICHELLE (GORDON) TOOMBS, TWO GRANDSONS ARYN AND GEOFFREY ALL OF CALGARY, A BROTHER GERALD (HELEN) OF NANAIMO, TWO SISTERS LOIS BURGE OF CALGARY , FAY (DUNCAN) SIMPSON OF NEW WEST MINISTER,B.C, TWO HALF SISTERS EVELYN WETZEL IN OHIO AND JOYCE LINDSAY OF SPOKANE, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

ALLAN WAS PREDECEASED BY A SISTER INEZ SAVAGE IN 1961, A HALF BROTHER JOHN, A TWO BROTHERS-IN-LAW ART BURGE, JIM SAVAGE AND HIS PARENTS.

FUNERAL SERVICE TUESDAY NOVEMBER 16, 1999 AT 1:30 P.M. AT VULCAN UNITED CHURCH WITH REV. LORRAINE POWELL AND REV. ED SUMMERS OFFICIATING.

HONORARY BEARERS WERE KEN AND FLORENCE SOKVITNE, IRVIN AND GEORGINA BENNETT AND AUDREY AND GORDON LUCAS.

CASKET BEARERS WERE KENT BURGE, ROD BURGE, RON LINDSAY, GORDON BAUMBACK, BARRY SLATER AND RAY MCDOUGAL.

INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
