JAMES CLAUDE “JIM” KELLY PASSED AWAY SEPTEMBER 22, 1999 AT VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE AT THE AGE OF 80 YEARS.
JIM WAS BORN FEBRUARY 23, 1919 AT MONTREAL, QUEBEC. HE ENLISTED IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON APRIL 7, 1941 AND SERVED IN CANADA, BRITAIN AND NORTHWEST EUROPE. WHILE SERVING HIS COUNTRY JIM RECEIVED NUMEROUS MEDALS INCLUDING 1939-45 STAR, FRANCE AND GERMANY STAR, DEFENSE MEDAL, CANADIAN VOLUNTEER SERVICE MEDAL WITH CLASP AND WAR MEDAL 1939- 45. JIM RECEIVED THE RANK OF CORPORAL AND WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED IN SEPTEMBER 1945. FOLLOWING HIS LIFE IN THE ARMY, JIM WORKED AS A COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN AND FISHED THE OCEANS OF NORTH AMERICA. JIM WAS A VERY PROUD, PRIVATE, INDEPENDENT MAN WHO HAD A SPECIAL LOVE FOR CATS. HE CAME TO CHAMPION IN 1995 WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.
JIM IS SURVIVED BY HIS SISTER IRENE (ALBERT) MILLER OF BATESVILLE, INDIANA, SPECIAL FRIENDS GORDON, SVEND AND GRETE CHRISTIANSEN ALL OF CHAMPION AND JOHN HOSZOUSKI OF VULCAN.
A GRAVESIDE INURNMENT SERVICE WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 29, 1999 AT 1:30 P.M. AT CHAMPION CEMETERY FIELD OF HONOR WITH PASTOR LARRY LOSEY OFFICIATING.
HONORARY BEARERS WERE MEMBERS OF THE CHAMPION ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH # 262.
