WILLIAM AITKEN “BILL” BROWN, FORMERLY OF LOMOND PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY OCTOBER 18, 2000 AT THE FOOTHILLS HOSPITAL CALGARY AT THE AGE OF 90 YEARS.

BILL WAS BORN ON THE BROWN HOMESTEAD AT WHEAT CENTRE ON AUGUST 5, 1910. AS A YOUNG MAN HE DELIVERED MAIL TO BOW CITY, BADGER LAKE, AND WHEAT CENTRE. IN 1928 HE TOOK OUT HIS OWN HOMESTEAD AND STARTED FARMING. HE MARRIED GLADYS CHAPMAN OF LOMOND IN 1949. THEY RAISED THEIR TWO SONS, BILLY AND ROBERT ON THE FARM AND RETIRED TO LOMOND IN 1978. GLADYS PASSED AWAY IN 1985, BILL CONTINUED TO LIVE IN LOMOND UNTIL MOVING TO CALGARY IN 1992.

BILL WAS ALWAYS ACTIVE WITH THE LOMOND COMMUNITY WHERE HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE LION’S CLUB FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. HE TOOK PART IN THE ORGANIZATION AND BUILDING OF THE LOMOND COMMUNITY CENTRE AND WAS ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE LOMOND MUTUAL TELEPHONE BOARD FOR SEVEN YEARS WHERE HE HELPED ORGANIZE THE UNDERGROUND LINES AND SEVEN DIGIT NUMBER SYSTEM. BILL WAS ALSO ON THE ORIGINAL ADVISORY BOARD FOR THE BOW RIVER IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT (BRID) WHICH WAS A MAJOR IRRIGATION PROJECT IN SOUTHERN ALBERTA.

BILL IS LOVINGLY REMEMBERED BY HIS TWO SONS BILL OF ABBOTSFORD, ROB (SHARRON) OF CALGARY, FIVE GRANDCHILDREN SUSANN (FIANCÉ DARREN) OF SEATTLE, ALESHA OF VANCOUVER, MATTHEW OF ABBOTSFORD, STACEY AND AMANDA OF CALGARY, A SISTER MAY CHAPMAN OF LOMOND, NUMEROUS NIECES, NEPHEWS AND MANY FRIENDS.

BILL WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS WIFE GLADYS, TWO SISTERS JENNY (HARRY) TAYLOR, MARGARET SASSO, A BROTHER-IN-LAW RALPH CHAPMAN AND HIS PARENTS EDWARD AND HELEN BROWN.

FUNERAL SERVICE MONDAY OCTOBER 23, 2000 AT 1 P.M. AT THE BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH LOMOND WITH PASTOR ED SUMMERS OFFICIATING.

HONORARY BEARERS WERE WAYNE RUGGLES, FRANK HORVAT AND RON MILLER.

CASKET BEARERS WERE ED CHAPMAN, IAN CHAPMAN, ERNIE RUGGLES, BRUCE GERHAN, PHIL RUGGLES AND DON CHOW.

INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.

THE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE NURSING AND SUPPORT STAFF OF UNIT 37 OF THE FOOTHILLS HOSPITAL . THEY TOOK WONDERFUL CARE OF BILL.
