McKAY, GLEN CARSON, PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AT HIS HOME IN VULCAN MARCH 14, 2000 AT THE AGE OF 79 YEARS.

CARSON WAS BORN AUGUST 8, 1920 AT VULCAN, ALBERTA TO GORDON AND AGNES McKAY , TOGETHER THEY RESIDED ON THE FAMILY FARM IN THE REID HILL DISTRICT. CARSON ATTENDED MARSHALL SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL IN VULCAN WHERE HE BOARDED WITH HIS GRANDMOTHER SARAH MARSHALL. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1938 AND CARSON FARMED WITH HIS MOTHER UNTIL JOINING THE R.C.A.F. IN 1942. HE RECEIVED HIS WINGS AT DOLPHIN, MANITOBA AND WENT OVERSEAS IN SEPTEMBER OF1943. HIS FIRST POSTING WAS AT OPERATIONS TRAINING THEN TO #6 BOMBER COMMAND IN YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND. HE COMPLETED THIRTY-NINE MISSIONS OVER GERMANY AND FRANCE AND WAS DECORATED WITH THE “DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS” (DFC) HE RETURNED TO CANADA IN 1945 AND PURCHASED LAND THROUGH VETERANS LAND ACT. HE MARRIED CATHERINE GRANT IN CALGARY IN 1947 TOGETHER THEY RETURNED TO FARM IN THE REID HILL DISTRICT WHERE HE RAISED CATTLE. CARSON LOVED RAISING CATTLE AND GRAIN FARMING. IN 1974 THEY PURCHASED THE ROBERT JAMISON FARM NEAR VULCAN AND MOVED THERE THE FOLLOWING YEAR, WHERE HE HAS RESIDED SINCE.

CARSON LOVED LIFE AND FELT THAT HE HAD ACCOMPLISHED EVERYTHING HE WANTED TO DO. HE ENJOYED TELLING JOKES AND SHARING STORIES, WATCHING SPORTS, ESPECIALLY CURLING AND FOOTBALL, IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS HE ENJOYED CURLING WITH LOCAL TEAMS. HE SERVED THIS COUNTRY DURING WW11 AS A FLYING OFFICER IN THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE. WHEN HE RETURNED HOME HE BECAME VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY AND IN 1968 CARSON BECAME INVOLVED WITH MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS WHERE HE SERVED AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND LOCAL HOSPITAL BOARDS, DURING HIS TERM AS CHAIRMAN, A NEW HOSPITAL WAS OPENED IN 1984 IN 1983 HE WAS ELECTED AS COUNTY REEVE HE WAS ALSO PAST CHAIRMAN OF THE VULCAN SEED CLEANING ASSOCIATION, PAST PRESIDENT OF VULCAN ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, PAST DISTRICT DEPUTY AND EXULTED RULER OF THE B.P.O. ELKS LODGE #121 VULCAN. CARSON WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF LETHBRIDGE SHINERS CLUB, SCOTTISH RITE, LITTLE BOW PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION CHAIRMAN AND WAS PAST WORSHIPFUL MASTER OF THE VULCAN MASONIC LODGE A.F & A.M HIS HUMOR AND WIT WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW CARSON.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF CATHERINE McKAY OF VULCAN, LOVING FATHER OF TWO DAUGHTERS MARILYN (BARRY) GORE OF CALGARY AND JEAN McKAY, A SON GRANT (SHANNON) McKAY ALL OF VULCAN , SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN LINDA (MEL) XAVIER OF CALGARY, CAMERON GORE OF CALGARY, CLARK McKAY OF OLDS, ANDREW McKAY OF VULCAN, CHAD EVASIUK OF VULCAN, AMY EVASIUK OF CALGARY AND BRADLEY EVASIUK OF VULCAN, NUMEROUS NIECES , NEPHEWS AND A HOST OF FRIENDS.

CARSON WAS PREDECEASED BY TWO BROTHERS BRUCE AND MARSHALL, TWO SISTERS LORI HORNE AND MERLE HARVEY AND HIS PARENTS.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE, FUNERAL SERVICE SATURDAY MARCH 18, 2000 AT VULCAN UNITED CHURCH AT 1:30 P.M. WITH REV. LORRAINE POWELL OFFICIATING.
