HARTUNG, Lillian   1918 – 2013

Hartung, Lillian passed away at Vulcan Extendicare October 14, 2013 at the age of 94 years.

Lillian was born October 21, 1918 near Burstall, Saskatchewan to John and Mary Schierman.   The family moved to Queenstown where she attended Griffen School  and took several subjects by correspondence. She worked in Calgary, Alberta from 1936 to1941.

Lillian married George Hartung on the Schierman family farm, east of Vulcan, where Terry and Linda Schierman reside, and after their marriage, they lived on a farm east of Champion before moving six and a half miles north of Vulcan.  In July 1973, they moved into Vulcan. George passed away in Sept 22, 1982 and  Lillian continued to live in her home for the next 20 years, staying close to family, enjoying her house and yard, and reading the bible through each year.

In 2002, she moved into the Peter Dawson Lodge and soon met Joe Ashmore. They were married in  2003 before transitioning to Vulcan Extendicare.  Joe passed away in 2010. Lillian continued to live in Extendicare until her passing, enjoying family visits, activities at the center and Sunday church services.

Lillian is survived by her loving children – Ted Hartung, Ken (Debbie) Hartung,  Juanita (Jack) Koster, Shirley (Sam) Vuille, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters –  Lenore (Eric) Deimert and Frieda (Charlie) Budd and numerous nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her beloved husband George in 1982, a daughter Carmelita in 1949, her parents John & Mary Schierman,  four brothers  – John (Wilhelmina), David (Ruby), Sam (Ruby) and Albert (Helen) Schierman, a sister Pauline (Jacob) Fritzler and daughter-in-law Jean Ann Hartung in 2012.

Funeral Service Monday, October 21, 2013 at 1:30 pm at Vulcan Church of Christ with Pastor David Sarsons officiating. Interment Vulcan Cemetery.

    Dear Ken, Ted and family:
    I was sorry to learn of the passing of your Mom! She lived a long and happy life but this will still be a sad time for her family. My sympathy to all of you.
