Frederick Henry Selland passed away peacefully at Vulcan Extendicare on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the age of 84, three months after the passing of his beloved wife Peggy.
Fred was born November 10, 1928 in Champion, Alberta. He attended school in Champion and attended the University of Alberta obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree. He was an accomplished musician playing the piano and clarinet. He traveled in his younger days and it was on a ship to Europe that he met a British nurse who was returning to England from working in California and Toronto. They corresponded for some time and were married in Southampton, England in 1957. They settled on the farm at Champion and Fred farmed with his son Phil until 2006. Fred and Peggy moved to the Peter Dawson Lodge and later to Vulcan Extendicare.
Fred was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Peggy in June of 2013, his parents Henry and Isabel and his brother-in-law Gordon Scorey. He is survived by his daughter Anne (Michael ) Francis, his son Phil (Carrie) Selland; his grandchildren Aaron (Kimber Myttenor) Francis, Andrea (Kyron ) Lacelle, Jennifer (Don) Mackin, Stacey Selland (Carl Lemke), Courtney (Geoff) Berry, Colin Yonkman; and his great-grandchildren Caiden, Alexis, and Ty Francis; Annaleigh and Merrit Lacelle; Brenndon and Tristen Mackin; Alexi Lemke; and Brooklyn Berry. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sister-in-law Gwen Scorey; and nephews David, John, and Steve Scorey and their families, and numerous friends.
A graveside service was held at the Champion Cemetery on Friday, October 4, 2013 followed by a gathering of family and friends at the Champion Community Hall.
Honorary pallbearers were Frank Cutler, John Middleton, Stan Howe, Raymond Warren, Douglas Francis, Grant Cummins, Jeff McGrail and Brian Fath. Casket Bearers were Kyron Lacelle, Aaron Francis, Colin Yonkman, Geoff Berry, Malcolm MacDougall, and Victor Cutler.
The Selland family would like to thank the Vulcan Hospital and Vulcan Extendicare for the wonderful care they gave to Fred.

I would like to show my deepest sympathy to all members of the Family. I have much appreciated the letters between us through the passing years. and I remember Fred as an open and friendly man, with a lot of hospitality.. I have always looked forward to correspondance with him.
