GOTTENBERG – EDYTHE LUCY
1915-2005
Edythe passed away peacefully at Vulcan Extendicare on Tuesday, March 29, 2005.  She was predeceased in 2001 by her loving husband, Martin, of fifty-seven years, and her brother Russell Lockwood of Vancouver in 1999.  Edythe will be remembered by her two sons, Russell (Doreen) and Don (Laurie) of Vulcan; her daughter Marta (Bill) Dixon of Calgary; her six grandchildren, Angie Gottenberg of Nanaimo, Jonathan Gottenberg of Red Deer, David (Dawn) Gottenberg, Gina Gottenberg and Greg Dixon all of Calgary, and Jane Dixon of Vancouver; and one great grandson, Neil Gottenberg also of Calgary.

Born in Sheldon, Iowa on June 5, 1915, she moved, as a young child, to Calgary with her parents, Junius (Joe) and Elizabeth Lockwood.  After graduation from Crescent Heights High School, Edythe (Lockie) completed teacher training at Calgary Normal School. Edythe taught for ten years in schools at Buffalo Hills, Springbank, Coalhurst and Champion. It was there that she met and married Martin. They moved to their farm east of Vulcan, where Edythe was very active in the community, being a charter member of the Vulcan Lionettes Club, the United Church women and a member of the Senate of the University of Lethbridge.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. After their retirement to Lethbridge in 1976, Edythe became the chief map-reader as she and Martin traveled extensively.

Edythe will be remembered for her quick wit, her optimistic outlook on life, her love of her family and forever being a “lady”.

Funeral services Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00 AM in the Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating.

Internment Vulcan Cemetery.

Casket bearers her grandchildren David Gottenberg, Gina Gottenberg, Angie Gottenberg, Jon Gottenberg, Jane Dixon and Greg Dixon.
