Merle Alvern Sande of Vulcan, Alberta  passed away January 18, 2006 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 80 years.

Merle was born May 22, 1925 at Lomond, Alberta to Olaf and Lulu Sande.  He attended Green Prairie, Lomond and Armada Schools.  Merle farmed with his father and later bought the farm.  In 1966 he married Ruth Chapman and she passed away in 1971.  Merle married Gerry Snow in 1974 and they lived in Lomond until selling the farm and moving to Vulcan in 1984.

Merle was active in his community as a charter member of the Lomond Lions Club.  He announced baseball games and curled in Lomond for many years .  Merle was very musical and played in a local band.  Merle and Gerry enjoyed their trips to Hawaii, Arizona, California and Florida.  He also enjoyed visiting with friends and was a loving parent and grandparent.

Loving step father of a daughter Sandra (Murray) Ohlheiser of Calgary, son-in-law Gary Gair of Vulcan, four grandchildren Tracy (Derrick) McGougan, Mark Houlton, Ed (Tracey) Ohlheiser, Michelle (Collin) Field, four great grandchildren Lauren and Kayla McGougan, JD and Jennifer Field, extended family Lorne Gair, Randy (Lori) Gair, numerous nieces and nephews.

Merle was predeceased by his first wife Ruth in 1971, his second wife Gerry in 2000, step daughter Margo Gair, sister Bernice (Basil) Godball, three brothers Floyd (Edith), Gordon (Ruby), Irwin and his parents.

Funeral service Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lomond with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.

Honorary bearers Lomond Lions Club.

Casket bearers David Sande, Ed Ohlheiser, Kent Sande, Randy Gair, Derrick McGougan and Collin Field.

Interment Lomond Cemetery.
