Robert James “Bob” Stokes passed away suddenly on August 29, 2007 at his home in Lomond at the age of 91 years.
Bob was born May 21, 1916 at Armada, Alberta to Charles and Virtue Stokes. He attended Brunetta School and helped his father farm. Bob married Betty Vanatta on December 31, 1954 at Calgary. They spent the next thirty years raising their family and making the original homestead farm a great success. They moved to the Village of Lomond in 1976 and Bob worked for Lays Farm Supply and continued to farm. Bob and Betty enjoyed an active interest in farming activities right up to their passing. Bob loved tending to the livestock. As he didn’t use e-mail, Bob made the most of his “Happy Hour” information sessions at the Lomond Hotel.
Loving father of two sons Doug (Bev) Lee of Brooks and their children Lareina and Rick, Jerry (Danita) Stokes of Lomond and their children Tammy and Clayton (Amanda), a daughter Deanna “Tuff” (Gary) Hingley of Bassano and their children Kristy (Mike) Darby and Stephanie (Travis) Lavallee, three great grandchildren Brody Lavallee, Emily Lavallee and Hayden Stokes, two brothers Leonard (Mary) of High River, Frank (Lillian “Sis”) of Vulcan, two sisters Betty Smith of Vulcan, Ivy Gilday of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his loving wife Betty in May, 2007, his parents Charles and Virtue and two brothers George and Pete.
A private Family Graveside Service was held on September 4, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at Lomond Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends was held at 2:30 p.m. at the Lomond Sunshine Drop-in Centre.
Interment Lomond Cemetery.
