Langridge, Robert James, B.Sc, DVM, LLB (1944-2007)
Bob passed away suddenly June 19,2007 at Calgary, Alberta at the age of 63 years.
Bob was born March 24, 1944 at Vermillion, Alberta, the eldest son of Ted and Claire Langridge. The family moved to Banff in 1950 where he would later graduate from high school. Bob attended the University of Calgary were he received a degree in Zoology, then a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Guelph. As an outdoor enthusiast and horse lover, he paid for his education working as a back country guide in Banff National Park during the summers. It was there that he met his future wife, Brenda Richards, in 1971. They were married June 19, 1976 at Presbyterian Church in Banff. They lived in Claresholm for a year before moving to Vulcan in 1977, where Bob opened a veterinary practice. The following year a son blessed this union. In 1989, Bob decided to return to the University of Alberta where in 1992 was awarded a degree in Law. In 1993 he joined the law firm of North & Co. of Lethbridge and divided his time between Vulcan and Lethbridge.
Bob loved animals, especially horses, dogs and trail riding from an early age. He was active in the Vulcan community as part of the Wild Rose theater group, Vulcan Community Library Board, Vulcan Curling Club, Vulcan Trap Club, Vulcan Golf Club and the Vulcan and District Ag Society. Bob also enjoyed old time dancing and arranged dances once a month. He was also a member of the Little Bow 4-H horse club and in his younger years played badminton.
He is survived by his loving wife Brenda a son Clark, his sister Cathy (Lloyd) Callaway of Calgary, three sisters-in-law Pat Langridge of Banff, Barbara (Brian) Henson and Broda (Michael) Stuart all of Calgary, five nephews, two nieces, two great nieces, three great nephews, eight horses, many cats and a host of friends.
Bob was predeceased by his two brothers Fred and Ted and his parents.
Memorial Service for Bob will be held Monday June 25, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Vulcan Cultural Recreation Centre, 504 – 4 Street S, with Mick Macintyre officiating.
