Olive May Strauss, beloved wife of Jerry Strauss, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on Sunday, April 20,2008 at the age of 72 years.
Olive was born on June 1, 1935 at Arrowwood, Alberta to Dick and May Hurl and was their oldest child. She grew up on the family homestead near Mossleigh where her brother Allan still resides. Throughout her life Olive worked at various jobs in the food industry and provided secretarial services to a few different companies as well. In December of 1997 she married Jerry and moved onto the farm at the Champion-Parkland area. It was then Olive’s life became very content as she was where she always wanted to be. She enjoyed being an active participant in the Alston Community as well as being a member and belonging to the Catholic Church. As Parkinson’s Disease became a part of Olive’s daily life, she became an advocate in helping find a cure and new treatments for the disease. All of the people that were part of her family were important to her and she enjoyed time spent with each one.
Besides her husband Jerry, Olive is survived by her three children Les (Bev) MacDonald and their daughter Kate of Clive, Doug (Brenda) MacDonald and their sons Derrick and Dale, and Laurie (Don) Patton and their children Ashley and Cody all of Red Deer, step-son Robert (Kay) Strauss and their children Katherine, Shaylyn, Kevin and Ryan of Vulcan., two brothers Allan (Karen) Hurl of Mossleigh, Bob (Joyce) Hurl of Penhold, a sister Lorna (Warren) Laycraft of Nanton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers were held on Wednesday April 23, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church at Nanton.
Funeral Mass was held Thursday April 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Cecilia’s.
Casket bearers were Dale MacDonald, Derrick MacDonald, Cody Patton, Don Laycraft, Derrick Hurl and Richard Hurl
