Albert West, formerly of Lomond, Alberta, passed away at the Brentwood Care Centre, Calgary, on March 22, 2008 at the age of 88 years.
Albert will be dearly missed by his wife of sixty-three years Helen, three sons Ken (Sharon), Les (Karen) and David (Patty), grandchildren Brad (Vanessa), Marla (Neville), Elizabeth (Kevin), Jared, Shannon, Nathan, Tessa, Catrina and Adam, great grandchildren Tyler, Jeremy, Walter, Maya and Margaret, numerous nieces and nephews.
Albert was predeceased by his mother Edith Wood in 1922 (Albert was only 3 at the time), his father Herbert in 1960, two brothers John in 2002 and Herbie in 2000 and sister Ivy (Hirst) Goldthorpe in 2005 .
Albert was born on the family homestead North of Lomond on October 2, 1919. He attended school at Lomond. On February 5, 1945 he married Helen Lindstedt and took up residence in the family farmstead house with Albert’s father and brother. Albert continued farming with his dad taking over the operation in 1950 and purchasing the farm from him two years later. Together Albert and Helen operated a mixed farming operation until moving, due to health reasons, to Vulcan in April 2004 and then to Calgary in January 2008 were he resided until his passing.
Albert loved Lomond, farming, family and his animals. He was an active member of the Lomond Lions Club receiving his 50 year pin this past year. Albert enjoyed visiting with friends and will surely be missed.
Funeral service Wednesday March 26, 2008 at 11 am at Lomond Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Ed Summers officiating.
Interment at 2:30 p.m. at Bassano Cemetery family plot.
