Helen Teresa McCallum passed away March 1, 2008 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 82 years.
Helen was born at Possilpark, Scotland September 11, 1925 to John and Helen Travers. She attended school at Glasgow until the age of fourteen when she began working as a seamstress for the Midland Railway making uniforms. Helen worked there until moving to Calgary to marry Wray Willis McCallum in December 1946. Together they raised their family on the family farm in the Queenstown area until retiring and moving to Vulcan in 1993. Helen moved into Extendicare in 2003 and has resided there since.
Helen loved her children and as a grandmother at the age of forty-two would always try to keep current with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed meeting and was open to making new friends. Helen enjoyed singing and was able to be a part of the church choirs in Milo at the Lutheran and United churches,. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, curling and tried golf. Helen was a past member of the Rebekah Lodge and the home and school association. She also loved gardening and growing flowers.
Beloved wife of the late Wray McCallum, Helen is survived by her five daughters Joyce (Don) Beagle of Victoria, B.C., Grace (Eric) McKay of Vulcan, Rhonda (Earl) Edwards of Picture Butte, Janice (Hugh) Campbell of Vulcan and Shari (Dan) Greene of Carmangay, two sons Glen of Milo and Ian (Denise) of Lomond, twelve grandchildren; Brent (Joanne), Lorne of Victoria, Lynda, Craig of Calgary, Vanessa of Picture Butte, Chase, Bailey of Vulcan, Tyler, Alena (Eric Matlock) of Lethbridge, Carla of Brooks, Derek , Dennis both of Lethbridge, numerous nieces and families in Scotland.
Besides her husband Wray she was predeceased by her parents and eight brothers and sisters is Scotland.
A Reflection of Life Gathering will be held Friday March 7, 2008 beginning at 2 – 4 p.m at Milo Community Hall.
Private family inurement will take place at the Hope Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
