Dale ‘Digger’ Mortensen

Dale Kenneth Mortensen passed away on February 27, 2009 after a long courageous battle with cancer and Parkinson’s.

Besides his wife Louise (Wilson) he leaves his children: Terry (Audrey), Rod (Natalie) and Cindy (Jack Svoboda) and his stepson Stuart (Anita) Selby; five grandchildren – Candice (Darell Tam); Samantha and Sean Mortensen; Tyler and Wyatt Svoboda; his dear sister Margueritte (Mike Snyder); his inlaws – Tom (Marilyn) Wilson, Ken (Myrtle) Wilson, Jim (Melissa) Wilson. Dale was predeceased by his parents James and Chloe Mortensen.

He was born on March 22, 1935 in Swift Current Saskatchewan, worked in the Coal Branch at Robb, AB as a young man and later moved to Southern Alberta.  Dale was well known in the construction industry. He was proud to be part of the Lethbridge Exhibition where he was the Operations Manager for many years. He enjoyed calf roping and race horses where he acquired many wins and many lifelong friends.

Put on your wranglers and join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club Grandstand (5th Floor), 3401 So. Parkside Drive, Lethbridge.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, 1331, 29 Street NW, Calgary T2N 4N2 or Parkinson Society of Southern Alberta, 102, 5636 Burbank Crescent SE, Calgary T2H 1Z6.  There will also be a horse race in Dale’s memory this summer which you may contribute to if you choose. The race will signify his final journey home.  Donations for the race can be forwarded to Rocky Mountain Turf Club, Box 22020, Henderson Lake Postal Stn, Lethbridge, AB T1K 6X5, c/o Louise Mortensen.
