CLEMENTS, Walter William 1918 – 2003

Walter William Clements of Vulcan, Alberta, formerly of High River passed away at Vulcan Extendicare Friday April 11, 2003 at the age of 85 years.

Walter was born April 5, 1918 at Richdale, Alberta to William and Florence Clements. He received his education at the Union Jack school, Corbihill school and Provost schools. After completing his schooling in the late 1930’s he moved and farmed in the Lindale area. On November 18, 1944 he married Mayme Neff at Carnwood, Alberta. In the spring of 1953 Walter and his family moved to Leduc, Red Deer, back to the farm at Lindale and then to Violet Grove, where he worked as a welder. In January of 1956 he moved to Calgary and later that year began working in the construction industry with his brother Joe, where he built his first house on his own. Walter started his own construction company called Clemco in the late 1950’s and continued working in the construction industry until moving to Kelowna. Walter and Mayme separated in 1967and eventually divorced in 1970. He later returned to Calgary and moved to High River in 1975 where once again he built his own home. Walter’s health started to deteriorate and in 1998 moved into the Vulcan Extendicare where he has continued to reside ever since.

Walter was an extremely talented man. He enjoyed wood work of all kinds. From constructing houses, to carving elephants, ducks, deers, animals of all kinds and even carving and painting “Trail’s End”, which was one of his favorite subjects.
