SHARP, Carl William “Bill” 1945 – 2017

It’s with great sadness that the family of Carl William “Bill” Sharp announce his peaceful passing, at the Foothills Country Hospice, Okotoks, AB on August 24, 2017 at the age of 72 years.

Bill was born in Vulcan on January 2, 1945, oldest son of Bill and Helma Sharp. He attended Grades 1 to 6 in Vulcan, then after moving to the previous Lynn Oldfield farm in 1957, he completed his schooling in Milo. After school, he remained at home to help his dad with the farm.

After growing up in the same community together, Bill married Lynne Richardson on October 30, 1965 and they resided on the family farm. Together, they raised two children – Jan Loree and Darren. In 1973, Bill and Lynne purchased the farm from his parents after they retired to Vulcan. They spent the next 35 years raising their family, farming and enjoying wonderful friends, family and neighbors and being active in the Berrywater Community.

In 2008, Bill and Lynne sold the farm and retired to High River where they have remained to this day. Again, they are blessed to have fantastic neighbors and very much enjoyed town life. Bill took great joy in building his elaborate model train display and loved all things trains! Like his father before him, Bill could build or fix just about anything and was always tinkering or coming up with a solution to a problem. Bill and Lynne were very blessed to do some traveling over the years – Canada, various United States, Australia/New Zealand, Caribbean, and Mexico and some of these trips were with good friends Doug and Val. Bill was a member of both the Milo and High River Lions Club.

Bill enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, good friends and most of all, his family, especially his two grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by many.

Besides his loving wife Lynne, Bill is survived by his two children – Jan Loree (Derrick) Hurl of Vulcan, Darren (Stacey) Sharp of Okotoks, his precious grandchildren – Makenna and Mason Sharp, a brother John (Dorothy) Sharp of Blairmore, brothers-in-law Don Fox and Darwin Miller, sister-in-law Helen (Bill) Olinik, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents Bill and Helma Sharp, sisters Rose Fox and Betty Miller, and parents-law Ed and Margaret Richardson.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the Vulcan United Church (210 – 2 Ave. South), Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating. Inurnment Vulcan Cemetery Columbarium.

Tributes in Bill’s memory can be made to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, Box 274, Okotoks, AB T1S 1A5.

Arrangements in care of Vulcan Funeral Home. Telephone 1-403-485-2633. E-mail condolences through www.vulcanfuneralhome.ca.

Unfortunately today, because of having to assist with Mom and Dad, I can’t get away that long to be with and celebrate a great man’s life.. One of the first ones I met at Grandpa Richardson’s back in 1980.. He judged me that morning, and I him..Me thinks we both passed in each others eyes! Like I said to both Jan Loree and Darren, his grin was the one that got me from day one. He has left behind a legacy with all of you..Lynne,Jan Loree, Darren and families I am with you not only now, but forever in the days to follow. Love to you all. Never forgotten by what he has left behind to all of us! Love to you all..Me thinks I might be trying to do his grin as I type!! God Bless each and every one of you!!!

Dear Lynne, Jan Loree and Darren,
I was very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was undoubtedly one of the nicest people I have ever known. I rode school bus with him when we were both in grade school, and don’t remember him saying an unkind word about anyone. The last time I saw him was when he was working at Peavey Mart a few years ago. He was the same great guy I remembered. Diana and I are thinking of you with sincere sympathy.

We are so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I have many wonderful memories of Bill growing up when my brother Murray and I would spend a week almost every summer with the Sharps. He will be missed.

we are sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. I have many fond memories of staying at the farm for a couple of weeks each summer and the patience that he had for letting me ride on the tractor with him and listening to him yodel in my younger years.
