SEAMAN-ANDREWS, Adeline Mabel 1918 – 2014

Seaman- Andrews, Adeline Mabel of Vulcan, passed away at Vulcan Extendicare August 1, 2014 at the age of 96 years.

Adeline was born July 7, 1918 in Vulcan to George and Mabel Armstrong and along with younger brother George (Buster) lived on a homestead west of Lake McGregor. Adeline’s mother passed away when she was four and Buster was two and a half, leaving their father to raise two small children. During Adeline’s teen years, she cared for her brother and her father after he had contracted Rheumatic Fever and suffered heart damage. Despite the hardships, their life was quite happy and her father’s optimistic outlook and Irish sense of humor got them through many hard times. Adeline attended Sunny Lake school and while attending school, did janitor work for a few years. Adeline and her younger brother had to assume many responsibilities at an early age due to their father’s poor health.

Her father passed away in 1939 and the following year, Adeline married George Seaman of Vulcan. They worked together for the next thirty two years. George passed away in 1980. In 2001, Adeline married Charlie Andrews. After many wonderful years together, Charlie passed away in 2012.

Adeline had a passion for painting, starting in the early 40’s and she continued to paint for almost 70 years. She loved to paint landscapes and things she would see daily. She loved to paint with color. Adeline had at least two exhibits, one at the High River Library and another in Vulcan. Painting was very important to Adeline – it was a release and helped to pass the time, especially in the twenty one years that she was on her own after George died.

Adeline is survived by Charlie’s children, son George (Cindy) Andrews of Vulcan and daughter Lynne (John) Turvey of Edmonton, two granddaughters Shilo (Quentin) Brauer and Lindsey (Kyle) Frache, two great-granddaughters, Averie and Aubrey Frache, and niece Marj Weber. Besides her late husband Charlie, Adeline was predeceased by her parents, brother Buster, and her first husband George Seaman.

Graveside Service Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:30 am at Vulcan Cemetery, Henry Friesen officiating, with Memorial Gathering and luncheon to follow at Vulcan Seniors Drop-in Centre.
