We hadn’t heard of Dorothy’s passing until our Christmas letter was returned by the Post Office. I knew Dorothy when I was a teenager in the Berrywater district. She and her husband Fernie lived at the McIntyre farm east of us. My mother accompanied Dorothy on the piano whenever possible. Dorothy had a very strong soprano voice that could break glass. She had sung for the San Francisco Opera. Dorothy sang at our wedding in 1992. She and Fernie retired and lived at Cayley for a time. Fernie (Fernand) passed away and Dorothy moved to Vulcan. She eventually lived at Nanton with her friend Tom for many years, until Tom’s passing . She lived at a High River lodge until the great flood of 2013, whereupon she was cared for at Tudor Manor in Okotoks. She was a dear woman and a treat to know.

As Dorothy’s Chaplain at Tudor Manor, I came to know and appreciate her quick wit and friendly smile. We had many profound discussions of life and faith, including the night before she passed. When I left her room that night she remarked, “Now I can die in peace.” We are thankful for having known Dorothy during the last year of her life and trust she rests in the arms of her Savior Jesus, forever!

I was Dorothy’s caregiver/companion for 2 months. Home Instead Senior care.
In the 2 months I knew Dorothy we bonded immediately. Dorothy loved being read to from “Our Daily Bread”. Even though Dorothy was very sick, she kept her sense of humor.
Dorothy was a beautiful lady to be around.
Love you Dorothy, I miss you. You are home now in God’s hand! Rest in peace Dorothy!
