PATON, David Lawrence  1932 – 2015

Paton, David Lawrence of Claresholm, formerly of Vulcan, passed away at the Claresholm Hospital on February 8, 2015 at the age of 82 years.

David was born in Vulcan, Alberta on August 17, 1932 to William and Odile Paton, where he grew up on the family farm northwest of Vulcan.

He enjoyed his life as a grain and cattle farmer who was very active in the Vulcan community as a member of the Vulcan Elks Lodge #121, Knights of Columbus #7327 and St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. He served on the Board of Directors for United Farmers of Alberta as well as the Vulcan Credit Union.

David married Wilma in 1992 and they were inseparable. He was a deeply devoted husband and easily took on the role of becoming a family man as step-father and grandfather. David and Wilma enjoyed living on the farm with their little dog Benji, until 2012 when they moved to the Cottonwood Retirement Villa in Claresholm, Alberta. Wilma passed away October 22, 2012.

David enjoyed collecting antique tools, tins and bottles. He absolutely loved helping others, always willing to lend a helping hand at every opportunity. He was a true gentleman, a kind and gentle soul and will be sorely missed by so many.

David is survived by his step-daughters, Deb (Brian) Nelson, Susie (Jack) Hunt, Wendy (Dave) Newton; grandchildren, Stacia (Mike), Curtis (Angie), Robert, Tanya (Rod), Tyler (Jodie), Chad (Amanda), Amanda (Steve), Rick (Sarah), Brandon (Nicole) and Cortney, as well as twelve great grandchildren, his second cousin, Bobby (Charlotte) Fisher, sister-in-law, Echo Paton, and nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, February 17th, 2015 at 1:30 P.M at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Vulcan (330 – 1 St. South), Fr. Ed Hospet Celebrant. Inurnment Vulcan Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Cottonwoods Retirement Villa in Claresholm, Dr. Smith and all the staff at the Claresholm General Hospital, staff of HomeCare of AHS, and Pat Wisener and his staff at the Vulcan Funeral Home, all for showing such kindness and compassion and taking such wonderful care of David.

    I am sorrry I was in Mexico at the time of Dave’s funeral. He was a wonderful nieghbor and friend. One of the best. Phyllis Hunter and family

    Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your loved one – Dave.

    Dave was a kind sole and had a great sense of humour even on our last visit a few weeks before his passing.

    He will be deeply missed but remembered always.

    Bob and I are saddened that we will miss his service.
