INGRAHAM, Alan Hale    1930 – 2014

Ingraham, Alan Hale, of Okotoks (formerly of Arrowwood), peacefully passed away surrounded by family, at the Agape Hospice in Calgary on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the age of 84 years.

Alan was born on October 6th, 1930 in Arrowwood, Alberta. Raised near the Arrowwood Creek in the dirty thirties, he enjoyed an honest, wholesome upbringing with his brother Gordon and sister Margaret. He graduated Olds Agricultural College in 1951, and after completing his studies returned to work on the family farm with his brother. In 1965 he married Kathleen Knive, and was blessed with three daughters. He loved people, conversation, good meals, and was devoted to his family.

Alan was a generous and proud supporter of the communities and organizations in which he was involved. He served on both the Arrowwood Hall and Co-op Boards, was a member and chair of the United Church, a charter member of the Arrowwood Lions Club, and member of the UFA and Alberta Wheat Pool. Alan served as Past Worshipful Master of the Gleichen Masonic Lodge No. 36 and Past Principal of the Bow Valley Chapter #10. In 2013, he received his 50 year pin from the Royal Arch Masons.

In Vulcan, he served as County Council School Trustee 1986-88 and served as the County Council Reeve from 1989-93. In addition, he was a proud supporter of Wheat Country Special Needs and was a board member with Speaking Out for the Disabled Actively (SODA).

Alan is survived by his three beloved daughters: Jocelyn (Mike) Langdon, Andrea Ingraham, and Allison (Kent) Shelstad; eleven grandchildren: Tyler, Madeline, Todd, Gabrielle, Julia, Jack, Tolosa, Helen, Grace, Andrew and Aron; one great-grandchild, Colette; his sister Margaret (Rick) Lomheim; sister-in-law, Rosemary Ingraham; mother in law Ruby Knive; nephews Richard (Stacey) and Eric (Brenda) Ingraham, Andrew (Candace) and Matthew (Holly) Lomheim, great nieces and nephews , and numerous friends.

Alan was predeceased by his parents Boyden and Helen Ingraham, former wife Kathleen Knive, and brother Gordon.

Celebration of Life was held Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Arrowwood Community Hall ( 1st Ave West, Arrowwood, AB), Sue MacDonald, D.M. officiating. Inurnment Arrowwood Cemetery.

    I had the privilege of working with Alan during his years with the County of Vulcan council and school board and enjoyed his philosophical discussions and sage advice. Our thoughts are with the family and Alan will be missed.
