HOWELL, Kate “Kay”  1916 – 2003

Kate “Kay”Howell, formerly of Milo, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the High River Hospital at the age of 87 years.

Kay was born August 27, 1916 at Lomond, Alberta to William and Rosetta Brotherwood.  Kay attended Brunetta School.  She babysat and did housework for Iona Vooys, Gladys Beagle and the MacKay families.  Kay met George Howell at a community dance in Armada.  They were married on July 17, 1948 in High River.  They returned to the family farm at Milo and continued to farm.  Kay lived on the family farm until 2001 when she moved to High River.

Kay was a mother who loved her family and grandchildren.  She enjoyed baking, traveling, dancing, gardening, embroidery, reading, puzzles and country music, especially Wilf Carter.

Loving mother of Dorothy (Percy) Way, Margaret Howell and Betty (Tom) Nelson, all of Milo, Wendy (Vern) MacKenzie of Nanton, Shirley (George) Vair of Cardston,  one sister Dorothy “Dot” Craine of Lomond, 10 grand children, 6 great grand children as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Kay was predeceased by her husband, George, son George Junior, infant daughter Mary, grandson Joseph, two brothers William and George, and her parents

Celebration of Life Funeral Service Friday, September 26, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Milo Community Hall, Milo with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.

Casket bearers Ross Nelson, David Brotherwood, Braden Brotherwood, John Beckner, Randy Tiegen and Terry Tiegen.

Internment O’Perfect Peace Cemetery, Milo, Alberta.

In lieu of flowers, tributes in Kay’s  memory can be made to High River Hospital Long Term Care Unit, 2nd floor W, 560 – 9th Avenue West, High River, Alberta, T1V 1B3 or the charity of your choice.
