DAVEY, Richard Wayne – 1939-2014

Davey, Richard Wayne of Champion, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the age of 74 years.

Wayne was born on October 17, 1939 in Claresholm. He moved to Champion in 1945 where he went to school from grades 1 – 12. He married Jean Ellen Schneider in June 1959. They moved their home to the Davey homestead in 1964, where he and Jean lived and farmed until his untimely death.

Wayne was active in the community. He served on the Hospital Board, was a long serving and past president of the Champion Lions Club, was a Flying Farmer, a member of the Vulcan Lodge, Chair of the School Board and served as a County Councillor from 1992 to 2007. Wayne’s peers elected him the Reeve of Vulcan County from November of 1997 through November of 2003.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Gladys. He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter and partner Linda Haines and Gary Toner, daughter and son-in-law Laurie and David Olsen, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Marcie (nee Davidson) and grandchildren Jessica, Matthew, Michael, Kelsea and Shelby, and sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Dave Baldwin. He will be missed by his large extended family of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Family, friends and neighbors celebrated the life of Wayne on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Champion Community Hall. Interment Champion Cemetery.

    Wayne has been a friend of our family for over 50 years. My mother Claire Mackay 94 is heartbroken at your loss. To Jean and all the family- Claire sends her love. Thoughts and prayers are sent from David , Jim, Don and Steve Mackay.
