Gordon was raised on a farm NE of Vulcan. He attended schools at Sunny Lake, Vulcan and Milo. As a young man, he worked as a hired hand and farmed with his dad. Gordon worked as a Driver Examiner until 1969. He then went into the Sporting Goods business. This work took him to Italy, Germany and Holland. When he left that, he was a successful Real Estate Agent until he retired in 1995.

Gordon moved to High River and he and Byrla opened a new chapter in their lives together and were married in 1995. They experienced many good times together. They took up golfing where they met many new people. They also traveled a lot, including England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, a Tahitian cruise, Mexico and the Panama Canal.
