KNIVE, Ruby Alberta    1918 – 2017

Knive, Ruby Alberta, of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Extendicare on February 23, 2017 at the age of 98 years.

Ruby was born on September 9, 1918 on the family farm at Kirkcaldy, to Michael and Dorthea Sullivan. Andy and Ruby married in Vulcan in 1942 and in the same year, they rented the Stager farm in the Red Cross district where they lived for the next eight years. They purchased the Henry McBride place in the Union Jack area in 1948. After years of farming and raising their three children, Andy and Ruby retired and moved to Vulcan in 1976.

Ruby took a keen interest in community events, including holding offices on various committees, working on the farm, church organizations, Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodges. Ruby was also a member of an entertainment group that visited the local nursing home on a regular basis. After Andy passed away in 1989, Ruby continued to live in her own home until moving to the Peter Dawson Lodge and then to Vulcan Extendicare where she resided until her passing.

Most of all, Ruby loved her family. She took great interest in all their activities, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all.

Ruby is survived by her children – Marian (Lynn Widgill) Flanders of Cochrane and Roy (Marj) Knive of Calgary, seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren,one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband Andy in 1989, daughter Kathleen, sisters Grace and Molly and a brother David.

A Celebration of Life Service Friday, March 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Vulcan United Church (210 – 2 Ave S), Sue MacDonald, D.M. officiating. Interment  Vulcan Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, tributes in Ruby’s memory can be made to the Wheat Country Special Needs Society (S.O.D.A.), Box 763 OR the Vulcan Historical Society, Box 104, Vulcan, AB T0L 2B0.

    Hi Roy, Marj and families.
    Sorry to hear of your moms passing. She was a sweet gal and a very community minded person. We won’t be at the service because we are in Palm Springs. Will be thinking of you.
