FATH, Darrell Stephen 1959 – 2017

Darrell Fath of Lake MacGregor County Estates, passed away after a long battle with cancer at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on March 1st, 2017 at the age of 57 years.

Darrell was born on August 20th, 1959 to Phillip and Catherine (Kaye) Fath. He met his wife Sherri Morrison and they had two sons; Carey and Daniel Fath, and were married for 33 years. During this time in their lives, they lived in many different locations, but they were all called home. Darrell and Sherri retired to Lake MacGregor Estates.

Darrell had a strong work ethic. He spent 25 years working for the company, Rife Resources. He started off as an accountant, but he moved up the ladder and he completed his career as a Human Resources Manager.

Darrell was very passionate about music, Arts, and seeing all kinds of new places. He loved his vehicles, his big and small toys. He enjoyed watching and playing football. One of the things he collected was anything related to football or baseball. Darrell may have complained behind closed doors, but he loved and cherished all his pets. He also loved to watch movies and play card games. He loved all kinds of food and he inherited his Dads love for chocolate! He would often partake in desserts which was, but not limited to pies, cinnamon buns or ice cream topped with chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, and M&M’s… let’s just say not many people didn’t know he had a stash of goodies somewhere.

Darrell is survived by his wife Sherri, sons Carey and Daniel, his siblings; Glenn (Connie), Allan (Leslie), Linda (Pat) and Gaye (Roy). And numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Philip and Kaye Fath and mother-in-law Jean Morrison.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Wednesday, March 8th, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Champion, AB, Father Tim Boyle Officiating. Interment Champion Cemetery.

Tributes in Darrell’s memory can be made to the Champion Cemetery Maintenance Association Box 99, Champion, AB T0L 0R0 Or Vulcan Health and Wellness Foundation Box 28, Vulcan, AB T0L 2B0.

I let a few of our SAIT & other mutual friends know of Darrell’s passing. It was interesting that they all said they remembered Darrell’s smile. I’ll remember that, as well as the frown & a few cuss words when the Calgary Stampeders would make some boneheaded play, usually late in an important game, and lose.

We always look back with fond memories of making wine with Darrell & Sherri, Trevor & Sonia. Making wine from grapes was a lot of work, but after all the work was done the meals that we shared, sampling our wares, & socializing. That was the best part of the whole process.

Sherri, Carey, & Danny, we are so sorry for your loss. We know Darrell will be missed by many people, but we he will not be forgotten.

Sherri and family, we are so saddened to hear that Darrell has left us, however we can all celebrate with the knowledge that he is in a better place. Knowing Darrell in the workplace, playing softball with him or just having fun while doing something different with Darrell has enriched our lives. One of my fondest memories with Darrell is three of us are in my Pickup (with a camper on) Darrell has the middle seat, and we are speeding across his father’s field attempting to race a Jack Rabbit.

Sherri and boys, I’m so very sorry to hear of Darrell’s passing. I have such fond memories over the many years, with family, working with him and our ice cream runs, his tower of cherry blossoms at Search, and the talks we had, and then working in same building and running into him every once in awhile. Such a wonderful kind, caring and funny man who will be missed by so many. Let the memories carry you through this difficult time and know our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I had the pleasure of working with Darrell at Rife/Canpar for many years. He was one of the most honest, approachable persons I have met and he always took the time to address any concerns his fellow employees may have had. It saddened me to hear how the cancer took bit by bit away from him over the years and yet he always maintained a positive outlook. Heaven gained a real gentleman!

Dear Sherri and family, one of the reasons it was always easy for me to get up in the morning and go to work at Rife Resources was because Darrell would be there. I cannot say enough about what a great guy he was to work with and to have as a friend.

Please accept our sincerest condolences on your loss. Regretfully Donna and I will be unable to attend Darrell’s memorial service as we are away from Calgary. Donna and Mike Okrusko
