Mitchell, John David, formerly of Vulcan, passed away peacefully in Victoria, B.C. on April 20, 2017 at the age of 84 years.

Dave will be greatly missed by his wife Bev, his children Winston, Scott (Susie) and Lyndon (Cathy), seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, and brother and sisters in law. He was predeceased by his first wife Virginia, parents John and Vera and his brother Donald (Lorna).

Chapman, Helen “May” (formerly of Lomond) passed away peacefully at the Taber Health Centre on April 18, 2017 at the age of 99 years.

May was predeceased by her husband Ralph, her parents Edward and Helen Brown, and by siblings, William, Janet, Margaret and Wallace and by all her in-laws. She is survived by her children, Ed (Rose) Chapman of Bassano. SCHMIDT, Cleo Arthur 1936 – 2017

Schmidt, Cleo, of Vulcan, beloved husband of Louise, died at the Vulcan Community Health Centre April 16, 2017 at the age of 80 years.

Cleo was born October 26, 1936 in Waterloo ON the 11th child of 14 to William and Caroline. He went to school at Rummelhardt down the road from the family farm. In 1957 Cleo traveled west for the harvest. He hired on with Lawrence Orchard, who farmed east of Vulcan. In 1964 Cleo married Caroline Louise Graham of Vulcan. They were blessed with 2 children and raised them on the Lawrence Orchard farm that they bought and continue living on to this day.

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Mabel Johanna Gerding (Peterson, Monner), on Good Friday, April 14, 2017, at the age of 94 years (or as she would say, “a hell of an age”).

She lived a full life, filled with laughter, stubbornness and generosity. Never one to hold back, she always spoke her mind regardless of the results, but never complained. Even to the end, always stating “what’s there to complain about, I’ve got a place to park my ass, a window to look at and they aren’t going to kick me out!”

Robert “Bob” Schibbelhute of Vulcan, AB (formerly of Carmangay), passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Extendicare on April 11, 2017 at the age of 82 years.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Marion, daughter Wendy and son Neil. He was predeceased by his parents David and Florence Schibbelhute. Jean Thomson of Milo, Alberta passed away at the Vulcan Health Centre on March 24, 2017 at the age of 89.

Jean was born in Milo February 11, 1928 to Joe and Mary Thomson. After completing her school education at Milo and Cluny, she chose nursing as her career, trained at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and achieved her RN in 1951. Her early years as a nurse took her to Winnipeg and Banff, but most of her working life was devoted to British Columbia Public Health. Rhodes, Walter Samuel formerly of Champion, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Vulcan Community Health Centre, on March 5, 2017 at the age of 94 years. He was born on March 7, 1922 on the family homestead east of Champion, to George and Jennie Rhodes.

Walter grew up on the farm helping his dad and brothers with the hard work that comes with farming. He also helped his dad in the mine. He attended the Sanderson School and managed to finish Grade 8 before his help was needed more frequently. Darrell Fath of Lake MacGregor County Estates, passed away after a long battle with cancer at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on March 1st, 2017 at the age of 57 years.

Darrell was born on August 20th, 1959 to Phillip and Catherine (Kaye) Fath. He met his wife Sherri Morrison and they had two sons; Carey and Daniel Fath, and were married for 33 years.
