CAMPBELL, Nora Elizabeth   1921 – 2015

Campbell, Nora Elizabeth (Nee: Collier) passed away May 5, 2015 at Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 93 years.

Nora was born at Vulcan, Alberta on August 25, 1921 to Godfrey (Joe) and Violet Collier. The daughter of a pioneer merchant and harness maker remembered the times of playing with kitchen utensils in the ditch dirt beside the street in front of the house. Nora married her school sweet heart, the love of her life, Stuart Campbell on November 21, 1941. Nora worked as a teller at the Bank of Commerce and then as a stenographer for the R.C.A.F. in Claresholm. During the years that Stuart was with the Air force, Nora and Stuart lived in Calgary and St. Thomas, Ontario with a final posting to Lethbridge. Donald and Beverly were born in Lethbridge. Moving back to Vulcan, after Stuart’s discharge is when Nora’s life as a farm wife began. Many hardships were over come as Nora became a devoted farmer’s wife. Learning to drive truck in harvest time among them and knowing she would never get fired for the things she did wrong. Buying land of their own, they moved to the Eastway district, North of Vulcan. Here Nora was active with the Eastway Ladies Club and the second family, Hugh and Patricia, were born in Vulcan.

Nora was active with the Vulcan United Church playing the piano for church. She also served as Worthy Grand Matron of Ferrodale Chapter of Eastern Star. Retiring to Vulcan in 1978 in a house that Stuart built and then in 2007 to Lethbridge to an Independent Senior Living complex, where Nora lived until her passing.

Nora was a gentle person that loved to play bridge, knit, needle point beautiful pictures, and play music on the piano as well as the organ. She enjoyed watching and following her favorite sports on TV.

Her love of life, goodness and caring will be missed by all those who knew her.

Nora is survived by two daughters Bev (Bob) Barr, Trish (Terry) Lotoski, two sons Donald (Marg), Hugh (Janice), four grandchildren Tom Barr, Colin Campbell, Chase Campbell, Bailey Campbell and two great grandchildren Lacee and Brittney Barr.

Nora was predeceased by her parents Godfrey “Joe” and Violet Collier, brothers Russell (Blanche) and Albert (Pat) Collier, sister Ruby (Nels) Jamison and beloved husband Stuart Campbell.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

    Bev, Don, Trish & Hugh,
    We were sorry to read of your Moms’ passing. We were fortunate to have had many times together with your folks when we played in the bridge club. Nora was a true lady.

    Nora’s life was a life lived to its fullest. A happy marriage, a wonderful family, and loving home were just some of the great things she accomplished. With so many children, grandchildren and great children, Nora’s legacy will certainly live on. Deepest sympathy on her passing.
