BEXTE, Hubert Anton 1940 – 2013

Hubert Anton Bexte born Jan 29, 1940 and passed away Jan 16, 2013 in Vulcan with his family near him.

He is fondly remembered by his wife, Nadine and his children David (Lorelei), Cody (Lisa), and Mardi (Murray) and 9 grandchildren, Erica, Kyle, Julia, Keean, Devon, Colin, Tracey, William and Annalise, his “rental son” Claus (Carrie) Sandhack and his faithful four-legged friend Patch. He is also survived by his siblings Adolph (Dorothy), Clem, Sylvia, and Reno (Lydia) and in-laws Charlotte Bexte, Edna Bexte , Monica Huculak, Linda Barnes and Gerald Armey and all his numerous well loved nieces and nephews . He also is survived by many relatives in Germany. He was predeceased by his son Fred, his parents, Anna and Bernhard, daughter-in-law Dawn, an infant sister at birth, and brothers Heinz-Joseph, Fred, Beny, Hugo, and in-laws Chester and Thurza Armey, Benny Vogt, Tina Bexte, Brenda Armey, and Marg Bexte

Born in Freischlag, Germany, he and his family endured the ravages of war of starvation and multiple displacements, escaping over the Reisengebergen Mountains on foot, and escaping through the Wall to West Berlin and airlifted to finally rest in the last refugee camp before emigrating to Canada in 1953. They worked sugar beets in Picture Butte before moving to Arrowwood about 1959. Hubert’s dream was always to farm. With little education, he learned his farming craft in whatever way he could, with incredible retention. With vision, determination, diligence and good hard work, he became the successful farmer that he dreamed of. This was recognized in 2009 with the honor of receiving the Calgary Stampede/BMO Farm Family Award.
Retiring from farming did not stop his passion for the soil. The garden was never more productive and the addition of a greenhouse only served to encourage him to strive for the first, the biggest and the reddest ripe tomatoes in the countryside.

His loves were his family, his dog and his farm. But he also enjoyed good times with friends, over a game of cards and beer or a Jagermeister. He was an active and proud member of the Arrowwood Lions Club for 45 years and we are witness to his legacy all around us. It will never fade and will in fact, continue to grow. The land, the knowledge he shared and the community in which we live is indelibly marked by his hands and heart.

Service will be Tuesday January 22, 2013 at 1:30 pm in the Arrowwood Community Hall, with Sue MacDonald DM officiating. Private Family Interment Arrowwood Cemetery.

Please remember Hubert by planting a tree in his memory or by taking the time from your own busy life to provide an act of kindness to someone who needs your help so that the world that he has just left will become a little bit closer to the one where he now resides.

With sincere condolences to all the Bexte family after the passing of Hubert. We will always remember his stories of where “The @#$% lay in the buckbrush!” The kids remember seeing “Subert’s” tractor often.
    Take care all of you.
