FRANCIS, Lorna Opal 1935 – 2017

Francis, Lorna Opal, of Vulcan, peacefully passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on February 11, 2017, at the age of 81 years.

Lorna was born on October 8th, 1935 in Arrowwood, to Nels and Clara Nelson. Lorna grew up on her parents farm near Queenstown, where she started her schooling. After school, she attended Secretarial College in Calgary and worked in Calgary and in the Western United States before returning to Milo. She married William “Bill” Francis and together they raised two sons on the farm – Timothy and Daniel. Lorna remained on the farm until 2007 then moved into Vulcan Extendicare in 2007.

Lorna took fierce pride in her Norwegian heritage and loved the Calgary Flames. She also enjoyed needlework and loved plants, although she never had a green thumb!

Lorna is survived by her sons Tim, Daniel (Dan) Francis, sister Carol (Bill) Steiner, sister-in-law Marilyn Nelson, brothers-in-law John Campbell and Larry (Jean) Umscheid, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lorna was predeceased by her parents Nels and Clara Nelson, in-laws William and Ella Francis, husband Bill, sisters Margaret Umscheid and Norien Campbell, brother Art, and brother-in-law Lee Francis.

Family Memorial Service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Milo, AB, Rev. Gordon Cranch officiating. Family Inurnment in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Milo, AB to take place in the spring.
